The Danish Environmental Protection Agency
We are part of the Danish Ministry of the Environment and Food – with several thousand colleagues employed in various agencies and boards which are also part of the Ministry.
The Environmental Protection Agency is responsible for legislation and is the authority in charge of major national tasks as well as particularly complex tasks.
Our work in the Environmental Protection Agency covers many topics within the fields of the environment, nature and health: chemicals, pesticides, gene technology, soil, waste, nature conservation, management of invasive species, hunting and environmental technology. The range of tasks is broad. Public and private actors shape the field of environmental policy, and the Environmental Protection Agency is responsible for preserving our shared nature values while performing satisfactory service to citizens and companies.
The Environmental Protection Agency prepares legislation and guidelines and grants authorisations in several areas. Further duties include the monitoring such different phenomena as protected species, chemicals and offshore platforms.
In protecting the environment, we must aim for simple, comprehensible rules that constitute the least possible administrative burden on business and the general public. At the same time we must ensure that fields of action are mutually supportive at both national and international levels. A high quality environment and sustainable growth go hand in hand.
